Quantity, it can refer for the time that one studies, to the quantity of students that exists in class and the quantity of things that teach us.

Quality, obviously, the quality of what we learn, of the teacher who teaches us, and for the time that is in use.

I have a friend who has a big problem of attention. It was always difficult that she was quite and more than once it happened that the teacher took her out of the class or she did not assist to the class because she was getting bored too fast.

The same thing was happening with English, sitting in a class of thirty students where you only can stand the teacher for two unbearable hours, because it was obvious that when ring the bell she was throwing herself for the window to be able to go out.

When she had to finish her career, she realized that she had not credited English and the worst thing was that she never studied the idiom. Really worried, she decided to look for all kind of bilingual schools as a crazy one.

The bad and good thing with the English is that there are thousands courses of this language. Not only in the city but also on Internet, so choosing one of these is sometimes complicated.

But my girl friend, based on her previous experiences thought that what she needed was a teacher who was paying attention to her, that teach her little by little, and in a time nor short or long.

It was clear that she can not pay for a particular teacher but finally, we convince her that she could take a little group of classes, it means with a few students and with a teacher who was paid for this.

So, she started her classes with four more students and with a teacher who really teach them really good. They had daily classes of hour and a half while they were taking the elementary level of grammar, writing and incipient beginnings in conversations.

With few students and with a fixed time, with complete exigency of the teacher and the students, she got over her first problem of not knowing anything of English and it takes her only six months.

Now, she reads enough good in this language, clearly with her limitations and in addition she is capable of writing with enough fluency. The whole achievement for someone who relaxes very much and keep several courses of English in her life.

The key of all that is that one must be able to administer the quality and the quantity of what you want to learn. Because it is not like a teacher speaks you for ten hours about the whole complete grammar of the English if tomorrow you are going to forget everything. There is always better that someone explains you a daily hour the important foundations of the grammar for some months and who you learn to your own steps.

This way you can feel comfortable knowing that you are giving the best and that teachers are teaching us well.

For beginning, you are lucky to do this question to you. The majority of people have sublimated so much that they finally end for associating “to learn languages” with “to learn English”.

To the practical point of view, it is not necessary doubt that the English language is mediátically necessary to be able to extend a little more our horizons. To the obligatory readings for the studies up from the readings we do for pleasure or for writting a CV, the music that we hear, the movies that we see. We have to admit it, English is all around. And it is necessary to accept that though Paris Hilton speaks English (not the best) many good ideas are in preparation in this language.

But, we must know that it is not the unique important language. For example, it is not very logical that one learns English if what wants is to study or get a student job  in France. Or one learns French if wants to move to Germany.

Let’s think about the English language as a useful base about our life. As much as if we want to go away for studying in Oxford or Harvard or for working as for “less necessary” things as reading an Times article in English or for watching new chapters of our favorite series without subtitling.

But sure, English language is not the whole thing in the life, not for nothing there are many people in this world that they do not speak it (let’s think only in China or India that in practice, English language is ‘WTF’).

So, we have many other possibilities to learn languages beside the English. For example, we have the Portuguese. This language is really beautiful, and when it is sung is even more beautiful, for me. If you want to listen to someone singing in Portuguese, just look for Ellis Regina, a Brazilian woman with a beautiful voice. On the other hand, when people say that the French is the love language, I don’t believe it is true, for me, Portuguese is much more romantic when it is spoken by a Brazilian or a Portuguese (though between he Portuguese of Brazil and Portugal there are many differences).

Another language that always called my attention is the German. Though I feel that I will never be able to learn it like it owes, is called me the attention whenever the father of my friend, who is a philosopher and always talks about Nietzche and never is agree about the translations … Anyways, as you can see, there are very much material for choosing. Even we might emphasize the luba-kasai, a language spoken for five million people the Congo, with this little word that is walking around in the Internet: Ilunga: Capable of forgive an abuse or offense for the first time, or tolerate it for a second time, but never for a third one. They had demonstrated to be capable of creating a very important word for something that sometimes we are all of us.
